I’m in the air over the Atlantic Ocean, and it’s somewhere around 5 in the morning.
The sun is just rising, and it’s a beautiful, deep red that quickly fades to orange, yellow, and dark blue. It’s just a sliver of light that will soon envelop the sky and send me onto the second part of my journey – day two.
This flight has felt like damn near infinity, but I guess anything would if you’re confined to a seat with your oversized book bag taking up all your leg room.
Luckily, I’ve survived the turbulence without any panic attacks to show for it, so I guess you could say it’s been a good flight J
Ironically enough, it’s an Irish company we’re flying with, and our pilot might just have the cutest Irish accent ever.
In a couple short hours (or less, hopefully), we’ll be on the ground in Madrid exploring the Barajas airport, which looked pretty damn cool from a documentary I watched on the plane earlier.
Getting really nervous about being able to communicate and wishing that I would have studied a whole lot more than I did. Hind sight is 20/20, I guess. I should be able to stumble my way through the pleasantries, at least.
It’s funny to think about all the worrying I’ve done up to this point and then feel the way I’m feeling now.
It’s calm, it’s excitement. A little disappointment at not having contacted my host mother, but hopefully she’ll forgive me and love me and do all my laundry.
I opened my gifts from the parentals, and they were all very cute! Appreciate the thought immensely!
And, of course, I’ve been thinking about Seany boy and how I wish he was here with me J And watched an episode of Glee for him, even!
Tried to sleep off and on, but the most I could get in were cat naps in about 30 minute increments. A full seven hours would have been nice, but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. I will literally be passed out by the time we finally make it to Oviedo.
We’re getting close to the coast of Portugal now, so I shall sign off and see you in Madrid if I get bored…or Oviedo if I find some sweet shit at the airport to occupy my time!
