Eat a Peach

Just rediscovered my love for southern rock all thanks to CMT -
go figure.

Relay for Life was Friday, we went out there at about 7. Saw Sadie, and she is as sweet as ever! Went down the bouncy slide with her - tons of fun! :-P Later on ran into Cody, Jordan, Gary, Trent, and GEOFF!!! I finally know your name AND how to spell it! And that you have an awesome taste in music! Rock on...

Saturday spent a little time with the fam at my cousin's 5th birthday party at the Holts Summit park, blew bubbles with Sadie and Matthew - little kids are so cute! And cake is always a plus! Then we went to see where Wendy was gonna be for D.A.R.E. camp. Came home and Mom and I went to Movie Gallery and Schnuck's. I have the best taste in movies (where did I get that?): The Godfather, The Green Mile, Citizen Kane, and City of Angels. We ran into Schnuck's to get what else but...Ben & Jerry's!!! Heaven in a pint, for sure! Ended up running around the whole store dropping stuff and just totally out of it. "That's cheap, get two!" Had our arms full of groceries at like 10 at night. Must have been a sight! Came home and watched The Godfather and ate my cookie dough ice cream! That movie is unbelieveble. Then yesterday (Sunday) night, Fajah is flipping through the channels on the tele and, lo and behold, on CMT there is an original special SOUTHERN ROCK! It was so awesome! The Allman Brothers Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, and Lynyrd Skynyrd...need I say more? Dickey Betts said my absolute favorite quote (you had to see it, it was just the way he said it):
"Everyone liked us, but our record label didn't.
They dropped us. Son of a bitch!"
Obviously, they found another one ;) If you get a chance to watch it, do. American Revolutions: Southern Rock. I LOVE IT!!!

Slept really late - woke up at 12 today. Spent the whole entire day cleaning and finally listened to the Allman Brothers Live at the Atlanta International Pop Festival - that was recorded before Live at Fillmore East. It's a two-day set - one version of Mountain Jam is 18 minutes long and the other is 29. Absolutely nuts! That's music!

The Godfather is one of my top favorite movies (but not as good as The Green Mile, or some of the others I've seen). I thought I would hate it and it would be really stupid. Quite the contrary. Yes, there's blood and violence, but there's really a story - a message. You understand as it's going along, but it really hits home in the last scene of the movie. It is as good as people say. Citizen Kane, on the other hand, well, I'm having some difficulty with that one. It's a good movie and all, but I don't think that it's as good as it's supposed to be - best movie of all time and all that.

To those of you who are completely clueless (tisk tisk) Eat a Peach was the title of The Allman Brothers Band's fourth album, released in 1972. Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident about halfway through the project, and it was titled Eat a Peach because of what he had said in response to a question about what he was doing to help the anti-war effort -

"I'm hitting a lick for peace, and every time I'm in Georgia,
I eat a peach for peace."
